Loge Blanche, Lyon confluence

Lyon (69)

Housing, 2010

Right where the Rhône and the Saône rivers collide, the city of Lyon is taking up its vacant industrial lands in order to extend its downtown area. Our ambition consisted in embracing the different identities and interactions of the site: the nearby hills of the Balmes, the Saône River and the recent dock.

For each apartment, large white loggias provide for enjoyable outdoor space and offer a privileged view of the landscape.  The loggias are like extensions for each apartment, functioning as outdoor areas, winter gardens and buffer spaces. They are also visible places from afar, allowing each resident to spot his very own apartment from a distance and take pride in ownership of the space.

At Saône Park, collective housing becomes fully compatible with each occupant's need for individuality. We figured this indoor-outdoor relationship, designed as separate entities rather than repetitive ones, was key to quality of life.

In front of the harbor basin and of the Saône river, the project is at the forefront of a bold architecture neighborhood.

The base in stone and glass gabions and the metal facade with irridescent effects remind of the river’s natural flickering.
