Les Grandes Serres

Offices, 2021

On the former site of the Pouchard factory on the banks of the Ourcq Canal, the Grandes-Serres de Pantin are undergoing a metamorphosis.

For over sixty years, the imposing halls of brick, iron and sheet metal have, alongside the Grands Moulins and the Magasins Généraux,  defined the landscape of the Ourcq Canal.

Alios Développement was convinced that the site would be ideal for a campus of offices, offering as it does a fertile historical environment in which to put down roots.

The halls, with their brick and steel, will make their presence felt in the new Grandes-Serres de Pantin.

Although the impressively long volumes of the historic halls will be conserved in the new campus, they will be separated from one another by a large number of public spaces.

Criss-crossed by inhabited bridges, they will feature mutually accessible open spaces providing a multitude of views, a certain elegance, and natural light to illuminate the heart of the Grandes-Serres.

Reminiscent of a covered garden overlooking the Ourcq Canal, mirroring the surrounding architecture to the point of merging with it, the Grandes-Serres de Pantin experience is characterised by a kind of sensory immersion.

The nearby water and the vegetation climbing the walls, already present on the worksite, will feature in the very heart of the Grandes-Serres, providing a living, sensitive experience in an urban setting.

A new gentle link between the two banks of the canal, a pacerelle would connect the new campus to the Metro Church of Pantin.
Factory today
Under the impulse of Alios, artists invest the place. Inspired by the power of the site, some use the old tubes to create their works.

Programmation culturelle

There are already many other actors in the creative and cultural world: film shoots, artists' clips and fashion shoots follow one another.

In the summer of 2018, as part of the Summer of the Canal, Alios Développement will go further by opening the site to the general public, with an ephemeral open-air restaurant and workshops with the artists.
